STOP. LOOK. Aircraft Taxiway Crossing.
Betcha didn’t know Memorial Avenue was a landing strip/taxiway until 1968. Betcha didn’t know a Rolls Royce was used to clear landing strips. Betcha didn’t know Kurt Johannsen (just!) managed to fly a plane with half its propellor missing. Betcha haven’t seen the Centre’s first air ambulance – a Tiger Moth.
Right? Then…you’d better come to the Museum precinct’s guided tour at 2pm April 20.
(Image: Some of the blokes who helped keep the planes flying. Recognise anyone?)
